ICAB’s Outstanding Student Award

2008 will be the twenty-fifth year of ICAB’s Outstanding Student Award programme and the following schools which have a Grade 12, 5th or senior year equivalent have been invited to participate:

The Berkeley Institute;

Bermuda High School for Girls;

Bermuda Institute;

CedarBridge Academy;

Mount Saint Agnes Academy;

Saltus Grammar School; and,

Warwick Academy.

Criteria for selecting the outstanding students are as follows:

  1. Scholastic Achievement - An overall average of B or better in the final year, and a ranking within the top 20% of the class.  This grade must satisfy the admission requirements for university enrollment.  There should be a clear indication that the proposed recipient is intending to enter a university undergraduate programme;
  2. Leadership Qualities - Exhibits the ability to relate to and influence others in a positive manner;
  3. School Spirit - Participates in school activities and in so doing displays strong school spirit;
  4. Community Involvement - Demonstrates interest in and concern for others by participating in a community programme; and,
  5. Recommendation for the Award by the high school or secondary school faculty.

The Award will take three forms:

  • the presentation of an engraved plaque with the recipient’s name inscribed to be kept at the school;
  • a certificate for the student to keep; and,
  • a $200 gift certificate to the iStore.

The Award will be presented at the schools’ graduation exercises in May and June and we welcome members who are alumni or have another relationship with the schools (e.g. parent of student) to present the award on behalf of ICAB.  Prepared remarks (very brief!) and the three components of the awards will be supplied to the ICAB presenter.

We are working with the schools at this time and do not have all the dates/times/locations of their award ceremonies, yet if you are interested in assisting a particular school, please let Wenda know by Friday 23rd April.
